Table Talks!

Hello everyone! I’m your one and only, the ‘Periodic Table!’ You know me since high school. For some of you, I was just another pointless lengthy table, which made your 10th and 12th difficult. However, for some of you, I am the world’s eighth wonder. So many things, so many types of things together, that too in a pattern. (With a lot of exceptions of course)

I was created in 1789, in the form of a list consisting of 33 elements. Since then, I have constantly been improving. Transforming, rather; three times as I remember.  Many people have tried to reform me. Through various patterns, co-relations, criteria, etc. So yeah, we can say that I’ve been through a lot! Currently, you know me as a bearer of 118 elements; and of course, a hell lot of syllabus!

My final formation and design were done by Mr. Henry Mosely. He was a real nice, intelligent, yet short-lived guy. However, I’m prominently known by my previous designer, ‘Dmitri Mendeleev’. He made me ‘modern’, with the perfect pattern and characteristics required.

But before even them, Dobereiner was the first who tried to find a pattern, periodicity in me. He was a pretty simple guy though. Tried dividing me into groups of three. Newlands after him was a music lover. He tried dividing my elements into groups of seven, like the musical ‘Saptaks’.

At that time, I was a popular guy (thing (table)). Everyone was trying to study and improve me. Everyone started to like me. I was the ‘Chocolate boy' of the early twentieth century. But the problem arose when I was included in the high – school syllabus. Until then, even I had realized that I was pretty lengthy and complicated. But at first, I felt amazing! Now everyone was gonna see me, study me. However, my amazement didn’t last long. Soon, non-chemistry – lovers started cursing me. I felt bad. But in a little while, I understood their pain. I’m still proud that everyone has heard about me though! That’s why I’m able to talk to you. But understanding the P-block has been tough for me too!

Before long, people started memorizing me for the exams (I still don’t get its point though). To make the memorization easier, they started to make my mnemonics.  Shortly, songs were made about me. I just love that ‘Hydrogen and Helium, then Lithium Beryllium’ song! It has 25 MILLION VIEWS ON YOUTUBE!

So since the last transformation in 1869, I’ve constantly been improving and increasing. So right now, a total of 118 elements with a handful of artificial and hypothetical ones. But who knows, which astonishing discovery will be made next month or even tomorrow! Or a new design of me will be made again, to improve and transform me! So let’s keep counting. And yes, all the best to all the students listening to me! Hope you understand me well…
